Home is a word that does different work depending on who says it. Shire writes from inside the refugee experience -- what it means to leave and what it costs. Said theorizes exile as a permanent condition of the modern intellectual. Lahiri follows an Indian couple and their American tour guide into a series of misreadings that none of them quite recognize. Each writer lives in the space between two places. The question is whether that space is a wound or a country.
